Sometimes the stories are funny, like when our sister squad in St. Paul got a call for a boudoir photography session that went bad with a candle. Luckily, no one was hurt and there was minimal damage, but it definitely made our “things not to do” wall of shame, and our client realized exactly how flammable lace can be. We like to share and educate, so we can prevent fires from happening in the future.
Insights into Training: Being an EMT/Firefighter needs significant training as well as ongoing education. Recently, we brought our dog board and training expert, Adrienne, on last week to answer questions on how you can train a dog to help assist in finding people in fires. We also talked about how desensitization is a key skill every service dog needs to have that will be going into action.
Next month we plan on speaking with a general contractor in Richmond, VA who will walk us through some tips to make sure the electrical is done correctly when building a home. You always want to make sure you have an inspector review each process of the build. A lot of times people will just have an inspector come in after the home is completed and the electrical is already hidden behind the drywall. If there is an issue, you want to catch it before the drywall goes up. This is a simple step you can take to prevent electrical fires down the road.
